April 10th, 2015
On Friday, April 10, 2015, we completed a special pool for the Johnson Family. Six year old Owen Johnson, the catalyst for the entire Darrell Gwynn Pool Project, sustained a spinal cord injury after his family’s van was hit by an intoxicated driver. The crash ended the life of his sister, Hannah, and severely injured the rest of his family members. But despite their loss, the entire family stays very positive and active with the Darrell Gwynn Foundation.
Owen and his family received a 15’ x 30’ therapy pool specifically built to assist with rehabilitation therapy. This pool, much like the Avilez family, is equipped with a zero entry ramp for easy pool access by wheelchair. In the deepest corner there is a bench surrounded by therapy jets to give his body a full massage. Near the stairs or an additional entry point there is another bar that allows him to stretch move around with zero resistance.
It was an honor to meet this family and a privilege to meet Owen. We hope this pool brings them joy for years to come.
